Norman Rockwell: A Pop-Up Art Experience provides a sense of place by depicting the artist`s studio, the museum, his home, the town of Stockbridge, pop art painting and the Berkshires. It adds another dimension for viewers of our National Tour, Norman Rockwell: Pictures for the American People.--Maureen Hart Hennessey, Curator, The Norman Rockwell Museum, at Stockbridge, Massachusetts From November 1999 through February 2002, a blockbuster exhibition featuring the famous works of the Norman Rockwell, the American iconographer, will travel across the country he loved so much. To commemorate this tour, we are proud to present Norman Rockwell: A Pop-Up Art Experience. By using three-dimensional effects, this imaginatively designed pop-up book is a novel pop art painting and entertaining way to experience the originality of Rockwell`s vision. The pop-up book opens to an idealized representation of Norman Rockwell`s hometown of Stockbridge, Massachusetts, where the viewer can take an imaginary stroll through the village: Visit the Norman Rockwell Museum, at Stockbridge where 11 of his works are on display; Peek into A Village Home where Practice pop art painting and The Breakfast Table are recreated in 3-D; View Rockwell`s Studio (which is preserved to this day on the grounds of the Rockwell Museum) where eight paintings are on display including Triple Self Portrait; Observe a typical New England One-Room Schoolhouse which recreates Surprise,; Tour the four corners of the town, which feature favorite paintings such as Gone Fishing, Redhead Loves Hattie, pop art painting and The Recruiting Officer among other scenes. The enclosed biographical essay, Norman Rockwell: A Great American Success Story, is accompanied by the 1967 painting Stockbridge Main Street at Christmas pop art painting and 16 Saturday Evening Post covers, including the celebrated series, The Four Freedoms. Imagining the Present
Lawrence Alloway ranks among the most important critics of his time, pop art painting and his contributions to the spirited pop art painting and contentious dialogue of his era make for fascinating reading. This collection of twenty-nine provocative essays from 1956 to 1980 provides readers with valuable perspectives on the art pop art painting and visual culture of the second half of the 20th century. Lawrence Alloway was born in London in 1926 pop art painting and died in New York in 1990, where he had taken up permanent residence in 1960 just prior to his appointment as Curator at the Guggenheim Museum. Critic, curator, editor, pop art painting and teacher, Alloway wrote prescient pieces about the interactions of the fine arts with commercial art, science fiction, cybernetics, film, the mass media, pop art painting and urban structures. An early member of the groundbreaking Independent Group in London, he coined the term Pop Art, pop art painting and his critical pop art painting and curatorial advocacy was an important factor in that movement`s early success. Throughout his career he maintained an inclusive, democratic view of art -one that encompassed popular culture, film, systemic abstract painting, realism, environmental art, women`s art, the complex issues surrounding mechanical reproduction, the distribution of information pop art painting and power in the art world, pop art painting and the semiotics of cultural institutions.
